Titans Linebacker Plans On Retiring Before Super Bowl

Tennessee Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan announced his plans to retire from the before Super Bowl 2020 at the age of 30. Derrick spent his nine-year career playing for the Titans. Morgan was selected with the 16th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. He finished his career with 305 tackles and 44.5 sacks.

Last season, Morgan played out the final year of the four-year $27 million deal he signed in 2014. Playing thirteen games and missing three games because of injuries. Even though his retirement may come as a surprise to a lot of people, Morgan said he had an inclination that his time in the league was coming to an end. Titans faithful would disagree.

“My purpose in life is bigger than the game,” Morgan told ESPN. “What football taught me was the power of influence. My goal is to create better and more meaningful opportunities for marginalized communities. This to break the cycles of generational poverty. Also, build greater wealth and economic mobility. I feel a deep responsibility to leverage my platform for this.”

Morgan also posted a message on Twitter, saying, “I’ve always said 2 things about my career. 1. I would play as long as it made sense. And 2. I wanted to leave the game on my OWN terms. And over 9 years, 5 head coaches, 9 surgeries and seeing a locker room turn over multiple times I am thankful to say that I accomplished both of those goals.”

During his playing career, Morgan was involved in real estate and other business ventures. He plans on expanding his impact in his community with a large project in his hometown of Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

With his decision to retire before the start of the upcoming season, Morgan joins former teammate Brian Orokpo, who decided to retire in December, as the second Titans linebacker to retire this offseason. The Titans will have a new look this season.

Washington Redskins Alex Smith Makes First Public Comments

Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome injury that forced him to miss the last eight games of the regular season and has prevented him from resuming football activity since.

During an appearance on Oh My Goff podcast, Alex Smith made his first public remarks since the injury and told host Angie Goff that he still wants to play football.

“That’s the plan,” he told Goff on her Oh My Goff podcast, which was published Friday. “There are steps I’ve got to conquer before I get there. … Learning to run again. That’s a big one. I’m already throwing. Throwing isn’t a problem, but dropping [back], moving around, change of direction.”

The 35-year-old quarterback added that he must wear the external fixator on his leg for another four to six weeks, meaning he would have worn it for about seven and a half months.

“The steps I’m at now are lifestyle steps,” he said. “I’m still working on playing basketball with my kids and running around after my daughter. Those are things I have to conquer anyway until I get to the point where I’m walking on the field. I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited about that challenge. The stronger I get every week, the more I do, the more hopeful I am that that’s a real possibility.”

With Smith expected to miss the entire 2019 season, the Redskins selected former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Haskins is expected to compete with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum for the starting position.

Even though the Redskins knew Alex Smith would not play this season and might never take the field again, the team never planned to cut him this offseason. If Haskins plays well this year, the team will have a tough choice to make at the end of the season.

Eddie Jackson Believes Chicago Bears Are The Team To Beat

The Chicago Bears surprised a lot of people last season when they finished with a 12-4 record, which was the second best record in the league. However, the team was unable to make a Super Bowl run after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card game.

This season safety Eddie Jackson believes the Bears are going to be better than they were last season, and added that the team will win it all this year.

“Everything — how short, and how far, we came,” Jackson told the Chicago Sun Times’ Patrick Finley when asked what will keep him motivated through the summer respite. “From the losing record to the winning record. How short we came, with the first-round playoff game with the field goal. Right now we just want to build off everything and let that be the fuel to our fire. We plan on taking this whole thing.”

Eddie Jackson also said that the Bears are going to use last year’s playoff loss as motivation because it was a game they would have won if their kicker hadn’t missed the game-winning field goal at the end of the game.

“The vibe is there,” Jackson said. “That will always be there. That’s not changing. You come in and you see everybody on one page, and [they] want to get things done and want to win. That will always be a great vibe.”

Jackson, who made the Pro Bowl and was also an All-Pro in his second year in the league, expects to be better than he was last season after spending the offseason watching film and getting into the best shape of his career.

“Come back and still watch film and stay on top of everything,” he said. “Just take care of your body. Relax a little bit. Don’t lose that taste for football.”

Even though Eddie Jackson is confident about his team’s chances, they will still need to get out of the NFC North, which will be tougher this season with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings improving their roster this offseason.

Philadelphia Eagles News

The Philadelphia Eagles don’t have a lot of experience at the quarterback position. This, after allowing backup quarterback Nick Foles to leave as a free agent. Foles, led the team to their first Super Bowl.

What will this mean for Philadelphia Eagles Superbowl 2020 odds? Foles quickly signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Replacing former quarterback Blake Bortles. This left the Eagles with Carson Wentz and Nate Sudfeld as the only quarterbacks on the roster.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, Wentz is still recovering from his season-ending injury. Also, he told reporters last month that he was behind schedule on his rehab. Even though the team expects him to be ready for training camp. Wentz has been unable to finish the last two seasons, so the team decided to add some depth through the draft. Selecting Northwestern’s Clayton Thorson in the fifth round of the draft.

With Sudfeld having thrown 25 passes in his career and Thorson being a rookie, the Eagles were expected to bring in another veteran to compete for the backup job. This is where Cody Kessler enters.

According to ESPN, the Eagles have their sights on former Jaguars backup Cody Kessler, who has appeared in 17 games and thrown for 2,215 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions while playing for the Jaguars and Cleveland Browns, who selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

However, he has a 2-10 record in 12 career starts, which might have some Eagles fans wondering if he can cut it as a starter if Wentz goes down with an injury.

Even though Kessler hasn’t put up the type of numbers that Foles did, he has put up some respectable numbers playing for two of the worst franchises in the league. With the Eagles having more depth than the Browns or Jaguars did when Kessler was on the team, the Eagles think he can step up to the plate if needed.

Dwayne Haskins Impresses At Minicamp

Aside from Dwayne Haskins stats, what do we know about him? Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins was drafted to be the franchise quarterback. This, after Alex Smith suffered a gruesome injury. Smith’s injury is expected to sideline him indefinitely.

The team traded for former Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum, who was expected to be the team’s starter for at least this season. This does not appear to be the case.

After the first few days of the team’s rookie minicamp, Haskins might not have to wait too long to become the team’s starter. The rookie turned head with his impressive performance and gave head coach Jay Gruden a lot to think about.

“It’s been a treat,” Gruden said. “He’s made some throws that turn your head without a doubt.”

Doug Williams, who led the team to a Super Bowl win in 1987, and is now the Redskins’ senior vice president of player personnel, was also pleased with what he saw from the rookie. Williams said, “It don’t take long for the ball to get from Point A to Point B.”

Dwayne Haskins Stats

Dwayne Haskins Stats

Despite the praise from his coaches, Haskins felt he made some bad throws and thinks there is still room for improvement.

“It’s challenging; you want it to be challenging,” Haskins said. “The biggest thing is trying to apply the meetings to the field. [There have been] 50 plays put in so far; a lot of stuff going into it. It’s fun to throw the ball around again. You’re going to make mistakes. The biggest thing is I rebounded from them and look forward to getting better.”

Thanks to his impressive performance, Haskins will get a chance to compete for the starting job during training camp.

“The most important thing in the next couple weeks is, let’s see how far we can push this guy,” Gruden said. “Let’s see if there is a chance he can win the job. If we feel like he’s coming along slower, then we have to maybe push Case or push Colt. But if we feel like [Haskins] is coming along and he’s firing and he’s comfortable, then we’ll play it out and see what happens.”

Can The Atlanta Falcons Win Super Bowl 53?

The Falcons will be considered legitimate postseason contenders this season. The fact that Super Bowl 53 takes place in their home stadium gives even more reason to think Dan Quinn’s team will be motivated. However, it’s not just destiny that will get them there. It’s a high powered offense led by quarterback Matt Ryan. Don’t know who to bet on Super Bowl 2019 for?

It is no surprise that Kyle Shanahan’s departure to coach the 49ers had an effect on the offense. The production took a dip under new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. However, that was expected given the transitional period. Even then, the Falcons still were an above average offense the entire season. Sarkisian now has a year of experience under his belt as he and the coaching staff will work out the kinks. Many of the offensive weapons return next season while free agency and the draft present the opportunity to add even more.

Bet On Superbowl 2019 Betting Odds

Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl 53

Don’t let the 2017 season fool you, teams still need a good quarterback to reach the Super Bowl. Even Case Keenum and Blake Bortles have performed well in the postseason. The Atlanta Falcons can rest easy knowing they have a former MVP under center. Matt Ryan is the ultimate key to the Falcons’ Super Bowl chances. He’ll be helped by a strong running game but it’s his arm that will lead the Dirty Birds to the big game next season.

Despite the 28-3 jokes, the Falcons shouldn’t be taken lightly next season. They almost made it to the ship last year and have a very good chance at creating some more history. Quarterback Matt Ryan will once again be at the helm, as expect Julio Jones to get more involved in the offense as he only totaled two receiving touchdowns the year before.

Who’s ready for another amazing season of Matty-Ice? Atlanta Falcons should be expecting the best in 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs Betting Odds

Can the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl 2019? Current online sportsbooks have the Chiefs sitting at +500 betting odds. Goodbye Alex Smith and welcome to the Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City. The 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft played sparingly during his rookie season. However, showed enough promise to head coach Andy Reid and the front office.

This offseason the Chiefs elected to ditch the aging Smith off a career season. They’ve now put the franchise’s trust in the 22-year old Mahomes. While Mahomes possesses loads of talent, it’s going to be his supporting cast that carries the load. Do they Chiefs have what it takes?

General manager Brett Veach can be credited to surrounding Smith with a plethora of weapons. Tight end Travis Kelce. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Also, running back Kareem Hunt all amassed 1,000 yards at their respective positions. It made the Chiefs one of the most balanced offensive units in the AFC and if it weren’t for a late-season downfall, they could’ve made a deep run in the postseason.

Super Bowl Betting Odds

Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Betting Odds

Even with the already explosive offense, the Chiefs have acquired former Rams wide receiver Sammy Watkins as he will become another deep threat for this speedy offense.

Rarely do we see young quarterbacks have these amount of weapons at their disposal and Mahomes couldn’t be in a better position. This is what the Broncos wish they had but now the Chiefs look like the most promising team in the AFC West entering the 2018 season.

We’ve seen second-year quarterbacks have Super Bowl success and what’s not to say Mahomes can’t do the same? It wouldn’t surprise us one bit with the talent the Chiefs have on their current roster. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes surprised everyone in the pre-season, if he is able to bring that same style of play into the regular season, it could be an exciting ride for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Steelers at Jaguars Week 11 Betting Odds

Today we cover Steelers at Jaguars. Here are the latest NFL Week 11 betting odds. The Pittsburgh Steelers will get a chance to avenge their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs last season when they play this weekend. The game will be played at TIAA Bank Field on Sunday, November 18. Also, it is scheduled to begin at 1 PM. ET. James Conner will be in the house!

  • Pittsburgh Steelers Analysis
  • The Steelers managed to overcome a slow start to the season. They have now won their last five games to move up into first place in the AFC North. They are coming off an impressive win over the Carolina Panthers. Last week, defeating the Panthers 52-21.

Pittsburgh lost twice at home to the Jaguars last season, the last loss costing them a chance to compete for the Super Bowl. They have had this game circled on their calendars for months but a win over the Jaguars won’t be as sweet this time around because the Jaguars are 3-6 and sit at the bottom of the AFC South.

Ben Roethlisberger had one of the best games of his career, throwing five touchdowns in the win over the Panthers, expect him to have another big game against Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.

  • Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis
  • Since their 3-1 start to the season, the Jaguars have lost five consecutive games and will be trying to avoid losing six games in a row when they play the Steelers, which will be easier said than done.

    Super Bowl Betting Odds

    Steelers At Jaguars Betting Odds

The loss of Leonard Fournette to a hamstring injury played a part in their slide, but their defense has struggled as well and they are giving up 22.1 points per game, which is 10th in the league.

Fournette returned to the lineup in their game against the Indianapolis Colts but gained only 53 yards on 24 carries. He also ran for one touchdown in the game.

Blake Bortles has been inconsistent this season but he played well against the Colts, completing 26 of 38 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns. The team will need him to play well on Sunday to give them a chance to win the game.

The Steelers are favore3d to win this game by six points. The over/under on total points scored is 48.

After two home losses to the Jaguars, who still haven’t let them forget about them, expect the Steelers to be on a mission in this game and blow the struggling Jaguars out. Take Pittsburgh -6 and the over in this game.

Super Bowl Underdogs Beating the Spread in Early 2018 Season

The NFL continues to be the predominant sports betting event in all of North America. Did you know that Super Bowl underdogs are coming up big in terms of beating the spread? What does this mean? Today we explain.

A recent article by the Washington Post suggests that NFL underdogs went 10-5 against the spread in Week 2 of the NFL season. This begs a number of questions for sports betting enthusiasts. What does this mean for you?

Which NFL teams are contenders and which NFL teams are pretenders? Are underdogs getting extremely lucky or do the book makers have it wrong? Wrong on a lot of NFL teams?

The early season showdown between the Patriots and Jaguars might be the best example of this theory. The Patriots edged out the Jaguars in the 2017 AFC Championship game. However, the Jaguars dealt the Patriots a decisive loss early in the 2018 NFL season. Could these two teams be headed for another game in the 2018 NFL playoffs? We believe so.

    2019 Sports Betting

    Super Bowl Underdogs 2019

When in it comes to sports betting the Jaguars were slight Super Bowl underdogs and they have been dealing with injuries to key players such as Leonard Fournette. Conventional wisdom tells us that the Jaguars might be a legitimate Super Bowl threat as the Patriots and other contenders in the AFC conference are showing early season woes.

Can the sportsbooks catch up with the trend of underdogs winning football games and adjust the lines or will the 2018 NFL season shape up to be one of the most unpredictable seasons ever?

The Jaguars are a perfect example of this phenomenon. Despite the Jaguars showing tremendous promise in the 2017 season, many sports betting handicappers have snubbed the Jaguars chances at making the Super Bowl in 2018.

Super Bowl 53 might be the year to be a contrarian. If you have trusted the experts early in the season, it’s possible that you’ve been the victim of a few early season upsets. Maybe as the season goes on, point spreads will look at a bit different as some teams emerge as potential Super Bowl 53 champions.
